The people who took to this kind of culture were born after the Great Depression Era. The decades 1960 – 1980 saw several internal fights in the United States. A large number of young people took to the social battleground to ensure peace and security for all.

Counter Culture has its roots in the Civil Movement. When ordinary citizens did not get their rights, they started the civil movement. People started fighting against the government. The act of protest primarily focussed on getting justice. Therefore, they were also threatened and beaten if they raised their voices. The Civil Rights Movement assured the freedom of protest for every individual in the country.

The unhappy students of the sixties challenged their college officials to allow them to choose subjects they liked. Soon the freedom of speech came into being as young people not belonging to the college joined in. The officials did not recognize their voices of justice.

The common people strongly opposed the Vietnam War. A large number of women took to the streets to rally against the government. In the later period of the 1960s, dynamic students from the college campuses joined in to fight against the use of Nuclear Weapons. After the destructive bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Anti- Nuclear weapon movement began. Humanity witnessed the destruction done by bombs.

Another movement that gave liberation to the suppressed humanity was the sexual revolution. The people of the 1960s challenged the traditional norms of love and marriage. This revolution was more of a freedom to people with different sexual orientations and preferences. People could choose their partner and how many ever they wanted to have.

Counter Culture Contributed To Peace

The hippies started the revolution to challenge the cruel rules of the society. It enabled humans to explore themselves in whatever way one likes. It showed us the pathway to a more peaceful existence. The flower of creativity bloomed when people gathered the courage to fight for their happiness.

The era of the sixties birthed many genius artists and craftsmen. Their music and words encourage us to today. There is no denying that the future will see a lot of corrupt politicians and ministers. However, the power to rule will always remain in the hands of ordinary students and citizens.

Counter culture has stepped in and stopped people from making the wrong decisions. One can say that counter culture has come from the seeds of people who saw the world differently. The ones that wanted to see happy people and joyful homes. They are the ones that believed in enabling people to express their individuality. Films, music, and literature projected a liberating world. As a result, they gave people the tools to express themselves.
