The Summer Of Love Was The Start Of Hippie Culture- Individualism

Modern individualism emerged quite late into society when people started revolting against oppression in the 1960s. Love, as well as peace, are two concepts that became widely famous after the hippie movement. The post-Vietnam war gave people a boost to discard the social as well as political policies of the government. The summer of Love referred to the summer of 1967 when many American youths marched on the streets to pledge their way of perceiving things. It was a tide blow to the oppressive imposition of the government as well as parents who try to curb the desires of kids.

What Is the Summer Of Love?

The summer of 1967 had experienced a sudden rise in the hippie culture, which was hidden for a long time. It emphasized more on the individual values of people. Before the hippie movement, people were bound to follow all the rules and regulations of the government. It resulted in oppression, and the judicial system was also not just. The jurisdiction favors the sophisticated rather than the truth.

After the war, it became very unbearable to follow the stringent principles of the system. Moreover, the youth wanted to create their path, which was decorated with sex and drugs. They emphasized more on the policy of making love, rather than fighting a war. Media and people highly criticized this revolt of people came up with the idea of “Summer Love”, to focus on the positive attributes of the hippie movement.

The Love For Music: The Hippie Movement

The hippie movement has given rise to many free-style musicians who devoted their efforts to create awareness through music. The whole point of summer love was to make people aware of their willingness. Many musicians started writing lyrics that were meant to ignite revolution amongst the public. Many solo singers like Bob Dylan, talked about all the things that matter in their songs. The songs were aptly written to suit the rebellious air that made people choose the path of love and peace, rather than war.

The Groups That Formed The Hippie Movement

The summer of love was formed out of three groups of people. They happily collided with each other to create a new culture. The first of the groups that constituted the hippie movement are the people who had an innate affection for music and fashion. The men used to love keeping long hair. They used to color their hair with bright shades. Women used to wear popping colored miniskirts. The second group consisted of revolutionaries, who badly wanted to reform the social practices. Lastly, the third group of people wanted to restore their inner salvation by indulging in intoxication. For them, love is marijuana and LSD. They achieved inner peace through such intoxicating drugs. The summer of love might have lost its charm today because of many ill-practices. Nevertheless, it is still considered to be one of the most golden eras.

Love was given the most important and people who craved it aligned together to give a new meaning to the world. In that world, there were no barriers to any social or political norms. It was only loved for individualism that ruled over.
