Hippie definition may sound quite confusing to many people, but it actually refers to a general trend or mindset which has become popular amongst certain groups of young people today. A hippie, also defined as peace loving and hippie, is actually a member of this counterculture of the early 1960s, first a very underground movement which began in the United States at the end of the 1960s and then eventually spread all over the world. The Hippie’s main political stance was towards non-violence and peaceful civil disobedience, and they were also keen on alternative medicine, eschewing modern medicines for herbal remedies. The Hippie movement was highly unconventional, yet very appealing to many young people at that time.
What Constitutes A Hippie
There are many arguments as to what constitutes a hippie. One school of thought is that this type of person is simply someone who is into music, art, meditation, and helping the poor. Others believe that hippies are someone who belongs to a counterculture, meaning that they are looking for ways to create a better world for themselves through non-conformity with the mainstream culture. However, many more see the hippie as someone who is fashionable, having unconventional views on most things, and enjoying life to the fullest without compromising safety and decency. This latter view of hippies is the predominant one held by many people today, and they are generally depicted as being friendly, open, caring, and just enjoying life.
Hippie definition is an easy one to understand when one considers the values they hold. They are mostly anti-intellectual, as well as antifeminist. Many hippies would say that those who are close to them are basically nothing more than brainwashed sheep who need to be forced to follow the crowd. On the other hand, those who oppose hippies tend to paint a different picture. They are seen as malicious and evil because they are supposedly trying to destroy what is known as “hippie culture”.
Hippies Are Not Necessarily Bad People
It should be made clear that Hippies are not necessarily bad people. In fact, many hippies are in fact, quite intelligent individuals who simply happen to have picked up a new, alternative way of life. With the prosperity in our society, it has become easier for people to live beyond the norm, which is why there is such a thing as hippie culture. So what is wrong with hippies?
One of the biggest problems with hippie definition is the negativity that often comes along with it. The majority of hippie parties were held during weekends where everyone went out of their way to make the experience as fun and unique as possible. The music, art, and overall atmosphere were all geared towards fun and did not take anything away from the people who came to the party. Unfortunately, due to the negativity that sometimes comes along with hippie parties, people who do not understand what they are getting into may often become bored or even cause property damage by being unreasonable.
Hippies Tend To Be Loners
In most cases, hippies tend to be loners. They will generally spend most of their time away from society, except for the odd visit to the local drugstore. When one is at a hippie party, there is no one else to get in your way or to do anything that you might disagree with. This means that when people hear about hippies, they might associate it with drugs or gangs, which is not necessarily true. Most hippies tend to be very open about their lifestyle, and also about coming together to make a better world for everyone.
The beauty of being a hippie is that you do not have to always party like a hippie. Many hippies choose to spend their days doing yoga, meditation, or simply just walking around. However, in order to fully experience the magic of being a hippie, it is important to define exactly what being a hippie is. Everyone has their own definition of what a hippie is, but at its core, it is a philosophy that promotes a vision of peace, love, and understanding. Some of the most well known bands that have been labeled as hippies include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Doors.
As you can see, the hippie movement has been around for quite a while. Whether you want to admit it or not, you probably identify as one at some point in your life. If so, do not let that stop you from having a good time, or from having a party. Indeed, hippies should not be judged as anti-social outcasts; rather, they are simply people who chose to live an active lifestyle that rejects establishment ideals.
